Fundamentals of Strain Imaging is a series of case-based video presentations featuring a practical “how-to” approach. It is intended for beginners to echocardiographic strain imaging to experienced users who wish to improve their skills. The appropriate audience include physicians, sonographers and other health care professionals involved in diagnostic echocardiography. The focus is on global longitudinal strain or GLS as a measure of cardiac function additive to left ventricular ejection fraction using different software. Because strain imaging technology is constantly changing and improving, contemporary approaches are demonstrated emphasizing steps for quality control and recognizing limitations. Strain imaging has transformed from a research tool to clinical acceptance and careful utilization will have an impact on the care of patients with cardiovascular diseases.
